Nicholas Forge

Dr. Nicholas Forge is Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University. His education includes bachelors and masters degrees in Sociology from Florida Atlantic University and an MSW from Georgia State University. He holds a PhD in Social Work from The Graduate School of Social Service at Fordham University in New York City.

The focus of Dr. Forge’s research is homelessness among sexual and gender expansive identified youth and young adults, particularly in the area of child welfare involvement, service provision and evidence-based practices. Most recently, he has been co-investigator and clinical field director on the Atlanta Youth Count and Needs Assessment, and was a co-principal investigator on a participatory action research project involving LGBTQ homeless youth. He is currently co-investigator on a federally funded grant investigating trafficking among youth experiencing homelessness. Additionally, he provides research and evaluation consultation for a homeless service provider and the Professional Excellence Program, which trains child welfare workers across the state, at Georgia State University.

Dr. Forge has published articles in Child Welfare, Children and Youth Services Review, the Journal of Black Studies, and has co-authored book chapters on child welfare involved sexual and gender expansive youth as well as social services for populations affected by HIV and AIDS. He has also served as a reviewer for the journal, Advances in Social Work Practice.

 His area of social work practice includes homeless services for LGBTQ youth and young adults. He currently provides social work services, staff/intern supervision, and program development at a drop-in centre and housing program. He has provided case management, individual counselling, psycho-educational groups, and street outreach to homeless youth in both Atlanta and New York. He has served on the board of directors of Trinity Place, a transitional living shelter for homeless LGBTQ youth and young adults in New York City.

Investigator and Clinical Field Director

(Eric R. Wright, Principal Investigator), Funders:  Georgia State University, Street Grace, and Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, January-November 2015.

Collaborated with a scientific team of 13 faculty from GSU, Emory and Morehouse School of Medicine in the design of the study protocol, worked closely with the PI in implementing the protocol and assisted in conducting interviews with youth, and provided clinical support and consultation to the field research team throughout the field period.
